Virtual Worlds?

Virtual worlds are digital “shared spaces” that only exist electronically. They are accessed using the internet so that many people can be in the same “virtual space” at once. Generally the basic software and accounts for these virtual worlds are free, and each user creates a computerised representation of themselves, called an “avatar”. By using their mouse and keyboards, users can navigate their avatars through these virtual worlds, communicate and interact with each other and the environment.

The more exciting and faster moving virtual worlds tend to be those whose content is completely created by their users. These kinds of worlds usually also have an in-world economy – people buy virtual currencies using real money and use those to trade with each other within the virtual world. Many of these worlds also have marketplaces that allow classified listing of virtual goods for sale. The truly revolutionary thing is that people selling their in-world creations can also trade in the in-world currency for real money again; when you pay with the in-world currency, you’re actually spending real money.

Snowcrash Digital™ is a professional content creator for virtual worlds, and recently it has been awarded the Gold Certified Solution Provider status by the company behind the virtual world of Second Life®, Linden Labs – recognizing the quality of the projects done, and the knowledge and experience on board in our company. Our flagship product is the Hermes™ Audio Technology – the only system of its kind in virtual worlds, allowing sales and distribution of audio content through virtual reality, with the content being delivered both to the customer’s avatar and real life self.

Since late 2010, Snowcrash Digital™ has also begun developing applications, services and products for “Open Sim” virtual worlds. Our first products for these are expected to be launched during 2011, and will at first be released in the virtual worlds brought to you by the company SpotOn3D®.
